Additional information:

Daughter of Raphael Mayersohn and his wife, Caroline, of Chambersburg.  The family had immigrated from Steppach, Germany, about 1837.

A younger sister, Hannah, married Frederick Nirdlinger, originally from Hechingen, Germany, on May 24, 1844 - possibly the first Jewish marriage to be performed in Chambersburg. The young couple moved to Huntsville, Al., the same year, and on to Fort Wayne, In., about a year later - "rugged pioneers who literally crossed the country in a covered wagon" (1). The first Jewish service in Indiana was held at the home of Frederick and Hannah Nirdlinger in Fort Wayne on October 2, 1848.

Raphael Mayersohn, a founding member of the Benevolent Society that administered the Jewish cemetery of Chambersburg, died in 1882, almost a  centenarian, at the home of his daughter in Fort Wayne.
