Chambersburg,
Pa.
born June 21, 1847 Baltimore, Md.
died July 18, 1902 Chambersburg, Pa.
Additional information:
The son of poor Jewish immigrants from Bavaria, Germany, who never seem
to have escaped poverty. His father tried to eke out a living as a day
laborer, well digger and junk dealer.
Around 1878 David Frank established himself as a merchant tailor in
Chambersburg and subsequently attained some prosperity. He married
Drucilla Creamer, the daughter of a local,
non-Jewish family. The couple remained in Chambersburg, in the
immediate neighborhood of Drucilla's relatives, the Creamer and
Henneberger families. Their children were raised in the Jewish faith.
It appears that this was the only Jewish-Christian intermarriage in
19th-century Chambersburg.
