Additional information:
Immigrated from Jebenhausen, Germany, in 1816, arriving at the port of
Baltimore on July 28, 1816. After some time at various places in Berks
County, Pa., he established himself in Carlisle. Ansel Arnold was among
the first Jews to have arrived in this area, and a pioneer paving the
way for numerous other families from his home village, mostly close
relatives of his, that settled in the vicinity during the 1830's and
1840's.
The
headstone for this early immigrant is conspicuous for the lack of
elements that would suggest a Jewish or non-American background.
