Carlisle, Pa.

born c. 1841 Chambersburg, Pa.
died March 24, 1846 Carlisle, Pa.

Translation of Hebrew epitaph:

Here lies Aron, son of Feis Arnold, died on Tuesday, 26 Adar, and buried on Wednesday, 27 Adar [5]606

Additional information:

Infant son of Philip Arnold and his wife, Fannie (Dettelbach), of Carlisle. His parents had immigrated from Jebenhausen, Germany, in 1834 and at first resided in Chambersburg. They were the owners of the property on E. Washington Street that was used as a Jewish burial ground from 1840. The property was deeded to the Benevolent Society in July 1844, when the Arnold family was about to remove to Carlisle.

Little Aron was named after his paternal grandfather, who had died on April 3, 1840, in Jebenhausen.

The Hebrew epitaph is badly weathered.
